Expressive Flamenco©: Finding my inner truth, my duende.

Expressive Flamenco©: Encontrando mi verdadero ser, mi duende.

This experiential workshop of Expressive Flamenco© shares auto-ethnographic arts-based research exploring the holistic healing possibilities with art of flamenco. This qualitative research aims to explore the broader applications of flamenco, an art form born out of profound emotions, which facilitates the process of self-knowledge by accessing the spectrum of human emotions and creating space for their expression. We aim to stretch it into new applied territories, specifically the arts therapies, because within the applied practice of flamenco (in its broadest sense, understood as the integrated combination of expressive arts) one experiences multiple emotions which have therapeutic benefits. This allows authentic expression to emerge and assists in revealing individual authentic truth.

After experiencing an ‘identity crisis’ (the loss of my identity), this state of defragmentation and the spiritual death of my soul, I began my healing journey using the combination of flamenco with other expressive arts. This creative process of expressive flamenco (EF) helped reaffirm my identity and led to the rebirth of my fragmented soul.  EF became an expressive arts therapeutic practice that helped me access profound emotions, allowing my authentic truth to be ‘expressed’ by connecting to my true self. During these experiences of arts-based emotional expression, I transcended into divine connection with my true self and what I understand as ‘duende’.  The duende is a spirit of evocation, born from within the self, which only appears when the soul connects with and is in creative conversation with the unconscious. It was through my personal practice of the combination of flamenco with expressive arts (for my holistic healing) that the core concept of Expressive Flamenco© was born.

All participants will have the opportunity to explore different emotions and connect with/express them with the goal of supporting access and connection with their true identity, their inner duende.
