Abstract: In this MA thesis I examine the effects of DMT on the social climate in a second grade classroom of an elementary school and on the decrease in the disruptive behaviour of a nine-year old girl in the class. The theoretical introduction explains the notion of social climate in the class, and describes the characteristics of the explosive and aggressive behaviour of children. I explained the significance of physical activity, of expressing oneself with the body or movements, as well as the social and therapeutic aspects of dance. I described characteristics of arts therapies – including DMT as one component – as psychotherapeutic methods and forms of psychosocial help. The findings show that DMT activities had beneficial effects on the social climate in the class. The improvement was evident in a greater readiness of pupils for mutual co-operation and the willingness to get to know each other. The number of conflict situations diminished, as did the amount of explosive and aggressive behaviour of the 9-year old girl. The results of the questionnaire measuring social climate (Zabukovec, 1998) point to the improvement of mutual relations and the reduced level of competition and tensions during the educational process in the class.
