| Abstract: | In music therapy, how can one work with children aged 8 to 12 with emotion regulation problems in a special education context? In this qualitative inventory practice-based research I studied existing research literature and conducted five interviews to answer that question. This study shows that the music therapy treatment concerned is meant for children with emotion regulation problems caused by ADHD, ODD, PDD and/or very low self esteem. Its focus is on learning how to recognize emotions and shape emotional expression. Ways to work on these things include improvising, listening to music, singing, rapping and making audio-recordings. |
